My opinion is that infants do not care about episodic memory. In the early years people are required to study all aspects of the world and how others function within it. While memories like who is good and who is bad are developed, the brain has no need for what we think of as memory, the record of events. This comes later when episodic memory is necessary for function such as the development of personality and day-to-day tasks.
